Please free Aung San Suu Kyi

Dear Than Shwe,

Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 13 out of the last 19 years. She has committed no crime and has been detained simply because of her political activities and her peaceful opposition to government policy.

Further more, Aung San Suu Kyi is just one of numerous prisoners of conscience currently detained by your government.

I am calling on you to immediately release Aung San Suu Kyi together with all the other prisoners of conscience and peaceful protesters currently in detention.

The rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly, without fear of harassment, intimidation or arbitrary detention are well established in international law.

I call on you to ensure these rights are respected and protected.
